I could have spend another hour talking with Lew Barnes this morning. Judging by the volume of calls we had this morning it seems many of you could do the same.
Barnes has the kind of background, experience and plain old commonsense that would make him a perfect pick to elect for the state rep race. Most politicians (oh heck, every politician) is like a fog machine. Ask a question of any kind and they start putting out fog instead of direct answers. Lew is a fog cutter. That's because he's not a typical modern politician. He is a new breed for Oregon politics.
I did get a call from a listener asking that if we are going to have political discussions to have every side at the table at once.
I'm not opposed to broadcasting debates. We have done so in the past. However, I think there is value in the one-on-one interview. Especially when you have open
phones and the public can participate as happened this morning.
What do you think?
Too bad Barnes is a "Tea Party" insert, using the Republican Party to gain a foothold in state government but then again, we have the likes of those "Fusion Candidates", Betsy Johnson(Democrat?)(Independent?) and Brad Witt(Democrat?)(Working Families Party(A Labor Union Created political party)), among others doing the same thing. Who, exactly are these people serving? Barnes, a smart and very competent man unfortunately falls into this same category and that is not a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThink there's an indicator there that clearly defines the dilution of the two mainstream parties in america? Candidates of varying philosophies using the two parties to get in the game.
The most significant point in Lew Barnes entire interview was on "Bi-Partisanship" because that concept alone is the answer to even his position in aligning with the "Tea Party' faction as well as every other political philosophy impacting all our lives in america and there is a time when we have to pool and use all our intellects together to solve the problems in our goverment together.
What you are doing on your show is the right thing Tom and quite frankly I admire you for every morning hanging your ass out there to take what comes.
Nobody that I know of at KAST-AM is blocking any viewpoint other that just plain rudeness and virtriol as would be expected.
Tom, What struck me in listening to your broadcast Wed. was how perfect the contrast between you and Lew Barnes sounded--you with your patented smooth voice, and Lew with his play by play voice. He's for real, and like you said, he's a new breed for Oregon politics--one who's perspective includes freer markets and limited government. He's not a career politician because he has a career, it's called a medium sized business unfortunately made much smaller by the actions of Salem legislators over the past 10 years. We need more legislators who look at being a representative as truly part-time with the purpose of government to actually help its citizens rather than direct them from above.
ReplyDeleteIf Lew Barnes is elected, and if enough people with similar inclinations are elected with him, we can turn this state around to where we can once again attract capital, businesses, residents and success to our beautiful state. Lew's common sense is exactly what we need in Salem today. BTW, Lew is still a long distance runner, his son AND daughter followed him as Marines and he's been married to the same girl since he was 17. The more you know about Lew, the more you like him--he's just that kind of guy.
“Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem” - RONALD REAGAN, First Inaugural Address, January 20, 1981
ReplyDelete"The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated," - One of the first paragraphs in the current GOP “Pledge to America” - 2010
Approaching 30 years of "Reaganism/Principled Conservatism" and a bout with "The Clintons" and now with the Obama Administration, a national financial crisis it obviously attributes to the previous administration of the same party that declares in their pledge the taking back of the same government they presumbly nearly crushed and we still have the same issues Art within the GOP and our nation on the whole?
Well, let me ask you, again, how your "Tea Party" faction plans to remedy this and how long it's going to take? I don 't think many people are going to bite on that old "Perotism" about making it all better for our grandchildren.
Sorry, forgot to include this simply to show we aren't facing anything new here that hasn't already been done. Did it work?
ReplyDeleteWant to see the model, in my view, of this first two years of the Obama Administration? Read this.
Ok, Patrick, I've answered such a question a while ago, even though it's only a start.
ReplyDeleteFrom my Feb 16 NorthCoastOregon article:
TRAINS HAVE REVERSE TOO
The Tea Party movement, from my perspective, is one that wants every politician or potential politician to STOP the government train. Then put it in reverse. More than anything else, we need to greatly eliminate state and congressional statutes on the books now. This process should be a comprehensive, thorough cleaning of the books, before ANYTHING else is done by our politicians to make things worse than they already are. The norm in Congress and all state legislatures is to add more laws to "address" the media headline problems of the day, but in so doing they create even more. This perpetual cycle of fixing by legislation that which has been caused by legislation HAS TO BE KILLED.

ReplyDeleteSo basically Art what you and your colleagues from "The Tea Party" faction you represent are espousing is the shutting down and deconstructing of our current system of government in The United States and rebuilding with a system of that particular group's making from its own particular interpretaion of its constitution and how its government should be run?
Well, that's called "Anarchy" isn't it Art?
And that's your solution, as the figurehead organizer of "The Tea Party" in Clatsop County?
And Bob Horning, Lew Barnes, Ed DeCoste, Rob Cornilles, Jeff Hazen, Bob Bridgens, Sally Stevens all follow and share this train of thought as well?
I'll pass on the rest of this piece of drivel thank you Art.
Having had the opportunity to speak 1 on 1 with Mr. Barnes a while back in my driveway was refreshing. The conversation was easy as we both agreed that this run away train both locally and federally has to be derailed. Lew the ballot is in the box and your box has been marked as was Dudley’s.
ReplyDeleteSorry Mr. McGee, we cannot continue with this european style approach to ruination.
You ask how can the tea party correct this?
This is the start by throwing all the jokers out and into the soup line.
And that "Change", is about the depth of any input from "The Tea Party" faction I have heard regarding any resolution to its complaint and if you reflect that intellect and infer that it is Barnes as well as Dudley's thinking, I myself have cast the the proper votes and you have just confimred it.
ReplyDeleteThank you "anonym"
