People aren't smoking enough.
The State budget office reported today that they seriously overestimated how much the cigarette tax would bring in and as of now the immediate deficit has grown from $560 million to just a little over $577 million.
Today it was reported that legislative republicans and at least one democrat are calling for a special session rather than follow the Governor's plan to make across the board cuts. This was before the latest increase in the deficit.
The word from the Governor's office is he will resist a special session but the ballots are going out to lawmakers that could override both the Governor and the foot-dragging Democrat leadership just as soon as hell freezes over. I don't see the majority democrats willing to rush back to Salem to face the music on this one. Especially not when so many face bids for re-election. They just don't trust the Republicans to keep politics out of the discussion. No kidding.
Hilarious-Smoking is too expensive and who needs it?
ReplyDeleteBrothels or weed anybody?
Why not a special session? Is it cost to the budget for a session or just inconvenient.
We need to legalize and tax weed I think.
Rant on
ReplyDeleteWhat do people expect when you have an elected leadership that has zero business experience?
'Sides, we have renewable expenditures to pursue. If we are going to continue to discourage fossil fuel energy, we have to line our freeways with solar panels, our wind prone areas with turbines, and our ocean with turbines. Unless you have been living in a cave, you have to know this is Oregon's #1 focus right now. I know the gov can come through with a plan to tax us more to pay for this important stuff.
Who needs schools, law enforcement, and basic services.
Oregon taxes. And I know there has to be a plan to tax us more.
If you don't have a job, don't worry, Oregon will take care of you. If you have a job, don't worry, the way things are going, you won't have one soon and can then enjoy government handouts.
Rant off.
Well, recently Clatsop County has sure proven it does not want new or expanded businesses in Oregon and especially here. People who are upset about the State budget surely have the names of locals to blame. It would be nice if the locals who have defeated propositions to bring in and expand would raise their hands as take responsibility, but they are probably now hiding in their closets. How could so many be deceived by so few?
