The "crash the tea party" project inspired by an Oregon teacher is just plain nasty. It does nothing to add to the debate over the priorities in this country. What it does do is take the discussion to the level of "Jackass The Movie" which reflects poorly on progressives and the real issues they must deal with.
People who are part of the tea party movement are passionate about what they are attempting to do but temper that passion with a sense of reason about their cause. They don't dismiss government waste as the cost of doing business. They call for a different approach and use visible protest to make their point. They have a right to do that without interference.
If you disagree then by all means you can counter protest. In Astoria we see this every Friday on the 8th street turn.
Just for the record Tom, and for those that may not be aware, please fill them in as to exactly what the goals of "The Tea Party" are.
ReplyDeleteMcGee, you see to want to tell us what our goals are so go right ahead.
ReplyDeleteTea Party goals:
ReplyDelete1. Freedom, where government is subservient to its citizens and where citizens don't look for handouts or motivation from government
2. Limited government--where government guarantees and protects the opportunity for its citizens to prosper, and gets out of the business of attempting to guarantee equality of outcomes.
3. Transparent government--something promised by the current administration but poorly carried out; if Congress's actions regarding Social Security were enforced like what was done against Bernie Madoff, they would be sharing jail cells with him.
4. Business-friendly government--where businesses are considered responsible and needed rather than greedy and/or just an unending source of tax revenue
5. Fiscally responsible government--simply put, spending below its means, saving for the future rather than mortgaging our future
6. A return to a genuinely free market, where the decisions of investment and economic growth is made by the millions of its citizens and businesses rather than an "all-knowing" government which cannot.
This is an abbreviated list.
Cool, I've got a lot of guns and know how to use them. A decrease in government is a really, really good idea. Please let me know when I can exercise my rights.
