County Target Of Statewide Protest

Coming up on September 23rd the Oregon Sierra Club and Columbia Riverkeeper is organizing an anti-LNG protest inviting people from Portland and Eugene to carpool to Astoria.
This will happen just previous to the Clatsop County Commission meeting where the commission is set to consider a zone change involving Bradwood Landing.
In an email obtained by KAST Olivia Schmidt of Oregon Sierra Club, Oregon Citizens against the Pipelines and Columbia Riverkeeper asks that people throughout the state attend, wear red t-shirts, make new anti-LNG signs that voice concerns over how LNG investors are effecting rightful representation in Oregon's government.

Just a heads up.

Many thanks to Tom Freel for his honesty regarding the LNG question. We certainly do not get this from the local press. The people leading these protests don't care a fig for Clatsop County, or anything else. They are simply feeding their insatiable appetite for power. They have collected a group of zombie-like followers who do not (or cannot) think for themselves. Every time they need another "fix," they encourage these pawns to demonstrate, or write letters, or disrupt meetings, and the leaders again swell with "power." But as with all addictions, there comes a time when they need more. So they organize a state-wide protest to invade Astoria. If they can attract enough attention, it will add to their perceived power. In the end, that's all they desire -- power -- and the LNG project is only the latest path to feeding their addiction. Beware of people like this!

  2. And you know why that is "Anonym - 9:49AM"?

Because you are not willing to go past...A-N-O-N-Y-M-O-U-S and they are.

  3. CDOG(Columbia Dredging Opposition Group) Tom?

Where the hell did that come from?

That the best character assassination shot you could take towards Peter Huhtala to attempt to undermine his campaign against Brad Witt?

Hmmmmmmmm!, Brad Witt versus Peter Huhtala, what a contrast in philosophies there and what a seat to be competing for, Betsy Johnson's old House seat and such a coincidental choice in replacing herself with that fella.

And you want to take shots at Peter's road to the State House as being contrived?

Of course this will likely never see the light of day but, so be it, I'll copy it for later use.

Um, IF the vote last year was on LNG and IF it really overwhelmingly represented the MAJORITY of Clatsop County citizens, why do we need all of these outsiders coming in here to "support" us?

Could it be because the last time the red shirts showed up at a county meeting they were outnumbered three to one, all HOMEGROWN, too!

Hey Tom, what do you hear about the dredge spoils being dumped on Puget Island, less than one mile away from Bradwood Landing? Heard those folks BEGGED the Corp of Engineers to dump there, cause their island was being washed down the river. The same group of people who travel 50 miles down the road to scream at our Commissioners that disturbing the sand around that area is going to devastate the estuary and irreparably cause an imbalance to that pristine eco-system! Any of them screaming about their island getting saved with these dredge spoils? Don't think so.

  5. No Patrick that's not the best I can do when it comes to the Columbia dredging. That was a quick reminder. Peter has a talent for turning important issues into cash and I have a long memory.

    How so?

If the County Commissioners represent the citizens of Clatsop County does that mean 80% of voters support the Bradwood project since 80% of our commissioners have voted to support the project?

    And Rice Island grows daily.

    Seen it lately?

The red-shirts don't want gas pipelines. Would they be happy if the LNG were turned into electricity? Or are they anti-power line too?

SUPPORT OUR COMMISSIONERS....OR HAVE THESE EXTREMISTS COMPLETELY TAKE OVER THIS COUNTY!! We can no longer stand by and watch this happen, step up and be counted...they are bussing people in because they don't have enough...I believe we have enough that don't want this chaos they cause, so come out on the 23rd and support our electeds, they are being attacked from all sides which means "your" government is under attack.

I think what they do not want are additional and quite possibly unnecessary natural gas pipelines.

Did you know that the natural gas industry, Northwest Natural gas included, advises using natural gas to fire turbines to generate electricity is unwise and wasteful and that just by a mass conversion to gas space and water heating in lieu of electric systems would see the demand on electricity plummet?

Are we not supposed to be seeking use of renewable and sustainable energy systems and weaning ourselves off the likes of fossil fuels the likes of natural gas and oil?

Kinda hard to stand up and be counted when everybody's name is "Anonymous" isn't it?

Don't think this is what's meant by "The Silent Majority"

I see Riverkeeper's are involved. Does this mean the new Port of Astoria Defense Attorney will be there? More of our tax money going down the outflow pipe at an estimated $300 per hour rate. Hope he has a red shirt on to match his I am not anti LNG complexion.

Though Patrick McGee and Marc Aurebach and a bunch of the other River Keepers are anti LNG, they still heat their homes with natural gas. Ironic, isn't it?

  15. Columbia Riverkeeper was not formed as an "Anti-LNG" group.

Their website includes the issues listed below as well:
    Clean Water Enforcement
    Environmental Justice
    Adopt - a - River
    Riverscaping
    Water Quality Monitoring
    E-Coli Monitoring
    Toxic Reduction
    Protecting Critical Habitats

Hey McGee...let's not forget ECO TERRORISM...earth first at the blue scorcher...puppet show...Pleeeaaazzz...they were arrested a couple week later in the Elliott Forrest.....these people have a much larger agenda than just shutting down jobs in this county.

Ironic too, that "The LNG Process" is just that and very costly for the end benefit and may not be needed at all and we are still getting Natural Gas at a double digit cost decrease projection for this winter is it, and assurance by pipeline developers that even without any of the LNG schemes, our west coast supply of NG will not be depleted at all with just one pipeline link-up with eastern NG supply from The Rockies(Palomar East Pipeline and Sunstone Pipeline are to active proposals)but if you can present any factual information to prove me wrong I will be happy to consider it.

Also, if you can present me with any factual data that substantiates a need in this region for LNG Speculation I'll look at that as well.

Mind mind is open but, so far I haven't been convinced by any of the hooey.

I still believe, givent the time, we can do better than this to put many more people to work here and I believe "The Port", if they don't screw the opportunity up. is looking at one answer right now.

"Earth Firsters", if you keep up with the buzz on this stuff, are kindergartners compared to some of their allied groups willing to go physical out in the field and that's a scarey prospect indeed and they don't need to be invited, they take matters into their own hands and act with no limit it appears.

No limits just like the local extremes here...they have the daily to get their message out so no need to be publicly responsible and speak truth, lies work just fine to do their dirty work. this is just like 14 years ago when that nutball poddar, tussing, and ballard terrorized the county with their beliefs or else...but these people are bring their same kind in from the outside...when will it end.

Anti-LNG people don't want to run a pipeline from here to I-5. Going 80-100 miles through parks and farms would be terrible!
Anti-LNG people also say that the US doesn't need foreign LNG. We have plenty on the East Coast.
So do they think it would be better to run a pipeline from the East Coast???

Wow, McGee is certainly a one-person voice for the anti LNG gang, isn't he. His tirades this time range from everyone should identify themselves on the Internet (even though, his own website allows anonomous input) to the Earth First terrorists (now, how does he know so much about this group?) to River Keepers (not an anti LNG group? come on!). And, he knows so much more about everything, he must be Steve Forrester's brother. We must remember McGee is a guy(?) that admitedly does bogus polls - meaning that he intentionally puts out wrong information? So why pay attention to him?

Gee, since McGee is so smart and well informed, let's elect him to office. Oops, he tried that and no joy. Oh well, it's fortunate that we have the internet so he can continue to keep us poor redneck dummys informed with the latest "accurate" information.
