I must have missed it.
Perhaps when I was out of state a couple of weeks ago?
Did our legislative leadership go back to the people of Oregon at any point and explain where we sit, the options for getting out of the mess and the direction we need to head in order to stave off
disaster? Did I miss the statewide event where our Governor had a conversation with us about what we face and his plan for digging us out?
I'm sorry I missed it. If indeed it did happen because I'm completely bewildered by what our leadership has done.
They have raised taxes and fees for us by ONE BILLION dollars this week. They are not finished quite yet but I'm told they plan to adjourn next week. Then those individual legislators will be heading home to explain themselves.
Of course reaction will be slow in coming but it will come. It will come with additional unemployment, additional business failures and some confusion when businesses that might have located in the state just don't appear. There will be a big reaction when tax time comes around.
If you check the list of those impacted by what these legislators have done in my previous post you can say at at least one thing. The Oregon legislature spread the misery to everyone.
Good job!
leadership starts at the top.
ReplyDeleteof course, ultimately it is the voters who are at fault. after all, it is the voter who put these tools in their positions.
One billion dollars...thats it? The Federal govt. is planning 600 billion dollars in tax increases (or about $1800 for every man, woman, and child in the country), county, and municipal tax and fee increases, why not? Lane county has just approved up to 15% cola and step increases, for some of their county workers, theyre resoning? Who's going to fill the shoes of the best and brightest! Betsy Johnson--well she is a "reluctant" yes voter!! Give me a break!! Stop talking to me like Im NOT the best and brightest!! A major reason for our economic problems is not becouse of the recession, but because of how money has been spent when we were not in recession!! Europeans have just in the last few years begun to reject socialism...but it has taken 30 years for them to do so!! I hope it doesnt take us that long to end this!

Hi Tom,
ReplyDeleteDemocrats think private corporations are evil and government organizations are good. So I can understand why we need to have unions for employees of private corporations but why do we need unions to deal with the government?
We don't! It's time to get rid of unions for public empolyees!
I wonder if we added up the rising costs of food, utilities, gasoline, automobiles, credit card costs, banking costs medical, life and car insurance and other private sector costs, would it exceed the increased cost of government per person. I suspect it would, but these are costs that never get reported until a businessman stumbles and causes a system failure. Of course, we could always do away with government and let folks fend for themselves, or we could cut back all the welfare programs that cause the majority of cost increases.
ReplyDeleteI hope the repeal petition is available in July to sign. It' time to put the monkey back in the cage. This disgusting approach to funding big brother, sister and cousins is getting ridiculous. The unknowns we won't seen until later are also scary. The "Obama" OBATS as they are called are running wild and appear to be using the "pot" they smoked in the 60's and 70's. When will this rapid unthought out crap cease? The only thing's government can do right is give pay raises, more hiring (they never fire only hire), coffee breaks, huge pension funds, many payed holidays and the best medical plans available.
ReplyDeleteThe local municipal agencies are no better raising it seems weekly the utility rates on citizens.
