Elections.. Stay Tuned

Two races in Clatsop County still too close to call.

District 2 race between incumbent county board chair Patricia Roberts and challenger Jim Scheller is very close with Roberts holding a slim lead.

Astoria Council race for Ward 4 is tight as well with incumbent Russ Warr facing challenger Bob Goldberg

There are about 100 votes left to count and those should be in county hands in the next couple of days. Although the election department says this could drag on until the end of next week.

After that long wait we could still end up with a recount.

The impact from young liberal voters helped education measures statewide. Portland Community College won a record increase for capital construction and other improvements and Clatsop Community College won it's modest 5 million dollar request while local option measures for police and fire failed by wide margins in Warrenton and by slimmer margins in Gearhart.

Those governments who are pushing for additional funding from voters should probably recognize that they are asking for help from a whole new demographic that will likely stay politically motivated on key issues as the candidates they supported take over in the White House, the halls of Congress, and State Legislatures nationwide.

This is a new ballgame.
