LNG Speculation

It's been nearly six years since Northern Star Natural Gas proposed a LNG storage facility at Bradwood Landing. Over that time this company has been continuously jumping through hoops, answering the same questions over and over. Each and every issue is addressed and dealt with as they occur.

But what about Oregon LNG?

The company backing this project is still very much active but with a completely different approach. While Bradwood Landing has been under a microscope, Oregon LNG has been moving under the radar. Bradwood Landing hired local people, have maintained regular office hours at their local office in Astoria. They have been active in supporting local causes and backing community events over the last six years. I believe these people have proven that they are a good fit here.

But what about Oregon LNG?

They have been handling things very quietly but make no mistake, they are moving forward. Right now they have an issue with control over the Skipanon property because of a public road that runs through the land. This road was intended to provide access to the property in perpetuity. Everything is negotiable though. There are probably other ways to satisfy the
requirement. Oregon LNG will eventually have to go public and enter into the same process Northern Star has been dealing with including filings, hearings and meeting environmental requirements. They won't have to deal with local land use issues though and that means the possibility of an accelerated process going directly through state and federal requirements. Don't look for big community meetings on this one. If Oregon LNG continues it's present business pattern I would guess we will see just the absolute legal minimum for public input and a reliance on the Presidentially appointed FERC commission to make the project happen.

The simple fact is, Tom, OLG and NSNG/Bradwood are both "Energy Speculators" and exactly, in your opinion, how is it NSNG/Bradwood has earned its way into our community with still a multitude of unanswsered questions still floating out there?

I see two "Energy Speculators" using two contrasting strategies pretty much impacted by the disposition of the property they are trying to site their projects on with, OLG, thanks to our Port and the Oregon office of Economic and Community Development making thier way much less complicated as compared to NSNG/Bradwood but nevertheless, they of the same ilk with the same motive.....

OLG has issues with control of their property, so says Joe Desmond?

Well, some of us seem to forget OLG's biggest ally...Warrenton City Commission, where bureaucratic miracles can happen at the spur of the moment, if necessary.

If taking a position on an issue that dramatically impacts our lives in this community makes me a "Nut Job", then I am one and proudly so.

What are you other than some "Cowardly Nobody", unwilling to publicly take a stand under your own name and face those, whose character you attempt to abase rahter than add substance to the discussion?
