Rates Up For Astorians
The Astoria City Council approved a 4.66% increase for Western Oregon Waste last night. They also approved a change in recycling that tacks another 2.05% on to your bill. Those red and yellow containers will be replaced by 96 gallon containers. All your recyclables can go in that container except glass. The City is working with WOW to set up glass recycling centers somewhere in the city.
I'm surprised WOW didn't get more considering the fact they have to truck all the garbage out of town. Fuel prices must be killing them as much as anybody else.
The 96 gallon recycling containers should be handy because you don't have to separate everything out. The problem might be exactly where you will put that container so that it doesn't take up your entire back porch. Many people might not be able to man-handle a container of that size to get it out for pick-up.
Another increase coming for residents includes a 6% increase for water and a 6% increase in sewer rates.
Make sure you ask your boss for a cost of living raise. That would be about 19% to cover living in Astoria and another 4.2% to cover core cost of living.
Good luck with that.

Tom:
I really think we need to talk about the college on your show real soon.
My understanding is that they want to go out for another bod levy in Nov.
They are looking for just another FIVE MILLION DOLLARS from the tax payers of this county. Just how many times are they going to try this? They don't understand we have said NO how many times ?
Tom, please bring this to your listeners. Thanks
