State Worker Pay

Here is a short list of State employees who are underpaid if you just look at annual salary:

DHS case workers
DMV examiners and front office staff
OSP troopers and game enforcement
Judges
District Attorney
State Attorney General
Secretary Of State
The Governor
State Representatives
State Senators

Well let's just face it. Anyone who works for the state of Oregon is underpaid when it comes to salary. However very few in the private sector enjoy the fringe benefits government workers do. Just take a look at the retirement package. It's not quite as sweet as it used to be but more than most people will ever have.

If we vote to mandate a salary catch-up for the DA in Clatsop County, that we pay out of the county budget, then how about all these other very valuable state employees? Don't they also
contribute significantly to our safety and quality of life?

I did sign the petition to refer the DA salary question to a vote. I did this because I want to vote "no" on this particular measure. It sets a bad precedent that needs to go away.

If the elected DA of Clatsop County is treated like a county department head then he should get a reasonable stipend for performing this function. That should be controlled by the budget process here not by the budget process in Salem. Under this measure the DA would be paid
at minimum 90% of what state judges are paid. We'd save money by paying the guy
the stipend.

Has anybody clearly defined just exactly what it is "The D.A." is actually supposed to be doing for the County?

I may have missed that explanation.

I guess I also missed the clear definition of just exactly what the hell Hazen's "Principle" was too.

Anybody else hear it?

Personal opinion and belief.

When someone says they do something because of "Principle". It is their EXCUSE so that they don't have to explain themselves.

They think that if they say that, they don't have to answer to anyone. There are strict rules regarding pay and "personal principles" are no reasons.

It is all a "flexing muscles" b.s. because there is a personal conflict and they can't keep their personal issues seperate from their duties of office. Just b.s.
