Daily Astorian Proves RADIO WORKS!
I have to admit some astonishment. The Weekday Daily Astorian as now joined forces with the
corporation that owns the monopoly on public radio from here to Tillamook in producing..get this..Radio news! I welcome this development because it means that after years of denial the
paper is admitting to the power, immediacy and incredible reach only radio provides. Why they would choose to align with a string of stations like KMUN that give absolutely nothing back to the community is a bit of a mystery. But it's a start. Of course this also means that the public radio monopoly now also has control of the newspaper so you can pretty much kiss balanced
reporting goodbye (ha ha). Might improve their accuracy though. We can only hope.
By the way, just want to encourage you to listen to The Eagle 103.9 FM on April Fools day. We are(for the 20th year) hosting the Astoria Kiwanis Radio Day which means the club can sell our commercial inventory for that day and keep every bit of the money. If you are contacted by a member of the club over the next month to buy ads just keep in mind that the money is going to a great local organization and all they do to support those in need right here. You've also been hearing ads on our stations for a Red Cross fundraiser. You get tickets to see our next Concert with country stars Heartland at the Liberty Theater along with a private reception with the band and a nights stay at a fine local hotel for a very nice package price with all proceeds going to the local Red Cross. We're also working on a Giant Garage Sale to benefit Pioneer House and this week we handed United Way $180,000 to advertise the upcoming drive that benefits 17 local helping agencies. KMUN will be raising money for themselves exclusively soon so they can increase their monopoly on public radio down the coast. Pioneer House could sure use that cash right now. So could the Womans Resource Center, The LightHouse Center for Abused Children and Clatsop County CASA just to name a few. I suppose though some people think KMUN's needs should come before all that.

Whoa! Tom comes out a'blazin!
Looks like it's pick on the Daily Astorian Day...but let record show that I posted mine before yours....
Tell PM and crew thanks for all the help with Radio Days. And for saving me from making a fool of myself on the radio like I did last year.
You are right about the Pioneer House, they are really struggling right now and are going to need drastic help to keep from closing the doors. We've written checks to them and the other 3 you mention over the last few months, but is nowhere near enough. Hopefully some of that $180,000 (Mis-print maybe?) can make it's way to these 4 entities ASAP.
Not a misprint. Our hope is that United Way will be able to use that to increase overall contributions over the next couple of years. Hopefully Pioneer House will see a substantial increase. i know you guys are working hard on this too. and yes..you beat me to the punch
